The Lock Settings screen allows users to configure the behavior of the lock. Each configuration is detailed below.

Serial Number

This is the unique serial number of the lock and cannot be edited. If the serial number is entered incorrectly when the lock is registered, the lock must be deleted and re-added to make the correction.


You can choose any name for the lock such as “Front Door” or “Unit 201”. 100 character limit.

Programming Code

The programming code is required to change any of the lock settings via the lock keypad. Think of it as a password. The default programming code is 123456. This should be changed after installation to secure your lock. Most of the settings that you can change on the lock settings screen can also be performed on the lock itself via the keypad. For example, if you wanted to mute your keypad, you would enter 123456 # 160 #. To unmute the keypad, enter 123456 # 161 #. Full keypad programming guide can be found in the lock’s manual.

Wake Wi-Fi

The KeyInCloud WiFi radio is turned off when the lock is not in use. This is because WiFi radios consume power at a fairly rapid rate. There are 2 ways that the WiFi radio can be activated so that it will connect to the internet. The first is by pressing a button on the keypad and the second is via regularly scheduled Heartbeats (explained below).

The Wake WiFi setting determines if the WiFi radio will wake and connect to the internet every time a button is pressed on the keypad. For the LS-5i models, it also determines if the WiFi will wake and report the event when the manual thumb-turn is used to lock or unlock the door.

For locks used in high-traffic areas, it may be wise to turn this mode to the “Only Heartbeats” setting in order to conserve battery power. Events will then be reported in bulk at the regularly scheduled Heartbeat Interval instead of after every access event.


Enabling Mute will silence the beeper on the keypad for stealth mode.

Heartbeat Interval

Because the KeyInCloud WiFi radio is turned off when the lock is not in use to conserve power, a “Heartbeat Interval” is set in order to wake up the lock at scheduled intervals. Each time the lock connects it will check for new commands, such as lock or unlock or the addition of new user codes.

When the lock does wake up and connect to WiFi, it keeps the connection open for about 10 to 15 seconds. After 5 seconds of inactivity (no keypresses on the lock and no new commands received from the web), the lock will disconnect from the internet and go back to sleep.

As mentioned in the Wake WiFi section above, the lock can also be set to wake up the WiFi and connect to the server the moment the keypad is pressed (if Wake WiFi is set to On). Therefore, when someone unlocks the door, it will wake up and report this event immediately instead of waiting until the next heartbeat.

Also, if you have someone outside the house that you wish to let in immediately, but don’t want to give them a code, simply unlock the door from your smartphone, then instruct that person to press any button on the keypad to wake the lock up. The lock will then receive the command from the internet and unlock the door.

The Heartbeat Interval effects the longevity of the lock’s batteries. The longer the interval (the period for which it sleeps), the longer the batteries will last. We recommend setting an interval of one hour or more for the best experience.

Default Heartbeat Interval is set to 1 hour after registration.


The Auto-Lock setting is also referred to as “Passage Mode” and determines the behavior of the lock after a user code successfully unlocks the door. After the door is unlocked, will the door re-lock (like in a hotel), or will it remain unlocked until the user locks it again.

If Enabled, this will cause the door to re-lock after a user code successfully unlocks the door. If Disabled, it will remain unlocked.

You can also adjust this mode according to a schedule. For example, during business hours you may want the lock to be in passage mode. In this case, a schedule could be created to disable auto-lock Monday – Friday 9-5. To create an Auto-Lock schedule, go to Devices/Schedules. This schedule will then be selectable from the lock settings page when the Schedule radial button is selected.

Auto-Lock Timer

When Auto-lock is enabled, this setting determines the length of time the lock remains unlocked before re-locking. Range is 5 to 20 seconds. Default is 5 seconds.

Lock Action Schedule

A schedule can be created to Lock and Unlock the door at specific times of the day. For example, you may want the door to unlock on its own at 9 AM and lock on its own at 6 PM. Or, you can create a schedule to just lock the door every day at 6 PM.

Schedules can be created by going to Devices/Schedules and then creating a Lock Action Schedule. This schedule will then be selectable on the lock settings page.


The Location (or Property) where your thermostat is placed.

Default Guest Start & End Time

For those creating guest codes, it can be helpful to use these defaults to set the time you typically allow your guests to check in and require them to check out. After setting these defaults, these times will be used when creating new guest access to save you time. These default times will also be used when codes are created for any Airbnb or HomeAway listing that you have associated the lock with.

Power Source

In order for the system to provide accurate battery levels and low battery or low power alert warnings, the type of batteries need to be specified. As you can see in the example graph below, the typical discharge curve for Alkaline batteries is a smooth and steady decline. Compare that to Lithium batteries that hold a high voltage for a much longer duration but then fall off a cliff when close to end of life. Therefore, while 4 alkaline batteries with a reading of 5 volts still has plenty of life left, lithium batteries are near end of life. In order for the system to give an accurate estimate of battery level, the battery type needs to be set properly.

Local Pins

Local pins are pin codes that can be programmed into the lock via the keypad in case of emergency (like an internet outage). In this case, if you needed to enter a new lock into the lock while on site, you could do so with keypad programming (Programing Code # 110 # Local Pin #). If a local pin is added at the lock, it will show up here in the Local Pins section within Settings.

Local pins can, however, be deleted from the web. To delete, un-check the pin and then press Save on the Settings screen.

Replace Lock

If you need to replace your existing lock with a new or upgraded KeyInCloud lock, please select the “Replace Lock” option at the bottom of the page. This will open instructions on replacing the old device information with a new model and serial number. Please note, when a device is replaced, the configuration of the device is restored to its original factory default. After your new device is connected, you can update your preferred settings. Finally, click Update.


To delete your lock, press the Delete link in the lower-right of the Settings screen. Confirm to delete your lock from your account.

Please Note: Deleting your lock will not clear the current settings or user codes from the lock itself. To do so, use keypad programming to either delete all user codes (Programming Code # 132 #) or return to factory default (Programming Code # 135 #).
